Free Your Mind with a "Second Brain" (+ Some of My Favorite Tools!)
Do you ever wish you could free up some space in your overflowing brain?
- …to be more present in work, study, or quality time with loved ones?
- …to truly rest and relax when your tasks are complete?
- …to experience more creativity, personal growth, and new discoveries?
- …to retain whatever sparks or fascinates you when a million thoughts inundate you?
All day long our brains work faithfully to keep track of countless ideas, tasks, and obligations. It can get heavy, tiring; we become stressed and might start forgetting timely information.
So, before we reach that point, what if we incorporated small habits, organizational tools, and time-saving hacks to relieve burnout in our daily lives?
Today I’m busier than ever, thank G-d, as I strive for balance in my personal and professional life. As a daughter, sister, friend, community member, student, observant Jew and soon-to-be registered nurse, I know every moment counts and need help keeping track of it all.

Recently I was intrigued by author and productivity expert Tiago Forte’s “Second Brain” methodology. This emphasizes the power of transferring both routine and significant information from your brain and organizing it into external storage, particularly digital formats. You might save special dates / times, contacts, URLs, images, tips, insights, summaries or research topics that will be useful to you later.
Another key is to try to keep it all in ONE STREAMLINED PLACE.
Journals, planners, calendars, notes apps, spreadsheets, etc. similarly allow us to honor and prioritize our mental space, relieve stress and become more efficient while still retaining unlimited information that matters to us. I highly recommend learning more at www.ForteLabs.com.
Passwords and dates/times are my kryptonite. Planning ahead is even more imperative with respect to Shabbat and Yom Tov.
That’s why password keepers like this https://amzn.to/3OKpQao, and planners like this https://amzn.to/49gGbMo, both by Clever Fox, are a lifesaver for me. If you belong to a faith community, planners or wall calendars incorporating your religious calendar are a bonus, like this Jewish art calendar by Adam Rhine https://amzn.to/3HZJuLS.
I found Adam Rhine through one of his adult coloring books and absolutely love the comprehensive details and stunning designs of this calendar as well.
Truthfully, planners and notebooks can also pile up over time, challenging me to locate specific notes, hence Forte’s emphasis on digitally organizing, but they're a step in the right direction for me!
